Canoe Garden at Pilgrim Wood Public School

HEN is fortunate to have a strong partnership with Halton District School Board. When we wanted to install our very first Canoe Garden, we chose to partner with a local school and get the students involved: the senior students designed and painted the Canoe; the OAK Club students installed the Canoe; the youngest students (the Kindergarten classes) did the planting! A team effort!

The Canoe is situated between the school’s Outdoor Classroom and the Food Garden. It provides an important reminder about the need to protect pollinators as they are essential to food production.

The school also designed signage for each major component of their classroom and garden. The sign chosen for the Canoe Garden reflects the garden’s place in the larger context of species conservation.
