Herb Sinnock

As Director – Sustainability for Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario, Herb is responsible for all aspects of corporate sustainability vision, strategy and culture, including implementation of Mission Zero, the institution’s ambitious plan to reduce energy consumption, waste to landfill and greenhouse gas emissions.

Prior to joining Sheridan College, he was Manager of the Centennial Energy Institute at Centennial College in Scarborough, Ontario. With nearly 25 years of experience in the energy sector, Herb has worked in project management, technology research and product development for projects funded by Ontario Centres of Excellence, Ontario Power Authority, US Department of Energy, US Air Force, City of Lowell Massachusetts and Yankee Atomic Electric Company. In addition to many other academic and professional credentials, he holds a M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Energy Engineering and Electrical Engineering, respectively.

Herb’s passion is driving transformational change throughout organizations of all scale and scope, with a focus to realizing a sustainable future for all species on earth. To this end, he has founded two research and development companies to innovate and commercialize energy and environmental technologies. He is an early pioneer of smart grids with a patent to his name and credit on global standards for distributed energy systems. He is a key sponsor of community energy planning projects in Town of Oakville and City of Brampton. For a decade he was a member of Burlington’s Sustainable Development Committee and served as Chair of the committee for 2 years. He is a sought-after public speaker with wide and varied experiences as a keynote presenter, session chair, and workshop facilitator.
