Digital Communications & Web Content Specialist

The Halton Environmental Network (HEN) seeks to hire a digital communications and web content specialist to support our programs  and initiatives, including our annual Generation Green youth conference and environmental leadership program; Halton Food  environmental education and community garden programs; and OakvilleReady supporting community resilience in the face of  extreme weather events.  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Active participation in planning meetings to provide input for program improvements 
  • Create detailed marketing strategy with program directors  
  • Implement marketing strategy across multiple platforms 
  • Develop content and creative materials to increase program visibility and engagement 
  • Manage multiple social media accounts  
  • Assist with website design, updates, and maintenance  
  • Develop and maintain master web content calendar 
  • Support program initiatives as required, based on organizational needs  

Preferred Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Experience with creation, editing, updating, and maintaining quality web content  
  • Strong digital media skills and ability to work with a variety of digital assets, e.g. images, graphics, videos 
  • Exceptional writing, copy editing and proofreading skills with an eye for detail and a style that maximizes web content accessibility.
  • Experience with creating and managing social media accounts 
  • Knowledge of content marketing, social media engagement, and writing for web 
  • Strong interpersonal and professional communication skills 
  • Willingness to collaborate and work effectively with diverse community partners  
  • Motivated self-starter that is able to work independently as well as in a team environment 
  • Creative problem-solving skills, flexible thinking 
  • Self-motivated with a positive and inclusive attitude 
  • Basic or advanced knowledge in one or more of the following areas: environmental issues, climate change action (mitigation and  adaptation), waste reduction, environmental stewardship, would be an asset 
  • Website design/development/maintenance experience 
  • Knowledge of digital marketing strategies, use of analytics to increase and report on engagement, an asset
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, would be an asset

Requirements:

  • Youth must be between the ages of 15 and 30 at the start of their employment
  • Youth must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada, as per the Canada Summer Jobs funding requirements.
